HUBER
Born in Guatemala City, Huber grew up in the sport of Dog Show Competition. Huber’s grandfather was the founder of “The San Miguel Kennels” specializing in Standard Poodles and Afghan Hounds where over Eighty Champions were produced and campaigned. Huber traveled throughout Latin America showing their dogs under FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale) standards and from the age of 8 to 18 he won several junior showmanship awards. Huber learned proper grooming techniques from well established breeders and successful handlers firsthand without the need to attend grooming school. His grandfather’s philosophical and artful approach to ethical breeding and showing dogs has been the inspiration of Huber’s career as a groomer. In the late ‘80’s Huber moved to the U.S. and retired from the show ring and after dedicating several years to the Real Estate business he realized he couldn’t be away from dogs for long. Huber then managed one of the most successful and profitable grooming salons for PETCO and after 9 years with the company he felt compelled to move on and after volunteering for about a year at The Wildlife Waystation, joined the staff as a keeper having different species under his care such as birds, primates, wolves and wolf hybrids to big cats and bears. Although he found keeping wildlife extremely challenging and amazingly rewarding, he couldn’t forget his love for dogs, and having the chance to join Tailwashers he took the opportunity and he lived happily ever after in the creative grooming world along with a staff of perfect little angels…not really…but close enough! |
